Slamet, Tatang and Aprat spoke to me about their work and how it was important to blend some of the traditional elements and techniques into their contemporary, abstract art. They were interested in my work and how different it is to theirs, having seen the printed examples I took with me. It was so good to be talking to these reputed artists, comparing and explaining our different methods and ideas. They would very much like to exhibit with UK batik artists in Britain or Indonesia. Could be quite a project and may even get some funding ? Maybe I am feeling too positive, but I am sure Thetis Blacker would have liked the Idea !

Sounds like you are having so much fun that you wont want to come home!

It was Sasha, some fine control in contemporary work too, I think it is in their in genes.
What I liked most of all was being able to talk to the artist while enjoying the work, I could give instant feedback and show my appreciation, while he could explain what inspired him and talk about techniques. I have just discovered today after much trying, I have an appointment with one of Indonesia’s most famous batik Artists (just returned from USA with touring exhibition) Agus Ismoyo ! I am told he is a deeply spiritual person and has to meditate before work!
